Rescue Mina from the Queen of Vampires in Dracula: Love Kills Collector's Edition

Although its title might suggest otherwise, the Count isn't the villain in the hidden object game Dracula: Love Kills Collector's Edition, it's actually the ambitious Queen of Vampires. Her goal is to rule the world by turning every human being into a blood sucking minion. A hidden object title by Waterlily Games, it mixes both puzzle and adventure game elements to bring Dracula and his arch nemesis together for a mutual cause. The Collector's Edition is perfect for those who are after the full experience as it features a strategy guide, desktop wallpapers as well as a meaty final chapter which changes depending on the choices you've made in the main game. Also, the game lets you choose the way you play by offering two difficulty levels. Easy mode guides new players using sparkle trails while hints are recharged at a slower rate in Hard mode.

Take Back What's Yours

The story of Dracula: Love Kills takes place years after the original game, Dracula: Origins. After the Count was sealed away in his crypt by none other than his arch nemesis, Van Helsing, he rises to find that his domain is now under new leadership. It's bad enough that the Queen of Vampires has taken over, but then he finds out that he's been stripped of his powers and that his beloved Mina is need of a rescue. Talk about having rotten luck. To put a stop to the Queen's plans, Dracula turns to an unlikely ally -- the great vampire hunter, Van Helsing himself. Will they be able to work together long enough to put a stop to a greater evil and rescue his long lost love?

For a fighting chance, you'll need to help Dracula get his powers back and rely on allies such as old, dependable Igor. Although there are returning elements from the original game, there's really no need to have played Origins to enjoy the sequel. The storyline of Dracula: Love Kills is independent of the first and just as entertaining, if not better. Looks-wise, we have no complaints save for the often emotionless visage of the characters. The details are astounding, from hellish landscapes to gloomy interiors, it's plain to see the amount of effort that Waterlily Games put in to polishing every detail of this hidden object gem. Also, the professional voice cast and a stellar soundtrack really get you in the mood for some Vampire Queen slaying.

Bringing Worlds Together

Instead of sticking to traditional game play elements, Dracula: Love Kills is a mix of puzzle and hidden object game mechanics. There are mini games, items and secrets to uncover. Objects can come whole or in fragments and are scattered throughout each level. Levels that have been fully explored are marked on your list so there's no need to revisit any just to scour them all over again. Hidden object segments are tricky as the items you will be asked to find are cleverly obscured from view. But, in case you end you stumped, Igor's always there to offer his assistance by giving hints when needed.

As for the mini games, well, they're kept simple and are, for the most part, more of a test in perseverance rather than skill. It’s not all bad, however. Whatever it is that they lack in challenge, they make up for in number. There are a total of 44 mini games all in all, making for a worthy break from the story and exploration segments.

The Choice is Yours

What sets Dracula: Love Kills apart from your run-in-the-mill love game is the unique way it delivers its story. Instead of forcing you though a set path in a linear fashion, you are given a chance to choose what the Count turns into. Will he be honorable and good or will he become the vampire spoken of only in whispers? You control his destiny and whatever path you choose will affect the final chapter that opens up in the Collector's Edition of the game. Although the story is not as intricately woven as a choose your own adventure title, this at least adds something special to what is usually a predictable trek through the plot.

With the puzzles, HOG elements and adventure game-inspired tidbits, the gameplay of Dracula: Love Kills will keep you hooked from start to finish. It also helps that the delivery is emotionally inspired, from its mood evoking music to its detailed backdrops, the game will immerse you into its fantastic world. With the stellar voice acting characters are also nicely depicted, however, there are times when they are lacking in terms of facial expressions, brooding vampire or not. Still, we guarantee you won't regret giving Dracula: Love Kills a shot. Better yet, go for the Collector's Edition for the complete experience.
